How Do Other Dungeon Masters Manage their Dungeons & Dragons Games?

How do other Dungeon Masters manage their Dungeons & Dragons games? I like the idea of being able to access everything through my phone. What tools do you use to manage your games?

Is dungeons and dragons connected to witchcraft? I think that it’s probably fair to say that if you conducted a survey of active D&D players (or past D&D players who still describe themselves as gamers) you will find that a higher percentage of D&D players describe as not being members of the “traditional” religions than the general population. (By “traditional” religions I mean Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, etc.) This has nothing to do with D&D being connected to witchcraft, however; rather, I think, the reverse. Somehow, you see, the rumor got started - probably by someone who sat in on a gaming session and heard players talk about “burning hand” spells or “magic missile” spells or some such; even more likely, by someone who glanced at a book on the shelf and saw that it had a picture of a wizard in a long, dark robe with a wand, and the moon in the background, and never went near a gaming session at all - that D&D was associated with Satan worship. I’d heard that rumor by the time I was 12. I thought it was really funny, since we were playing D&D the afternoon sunlight in my friend’s living room while his mother painted in the other room. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what the one had to do with the other. But even my mother - who really isn’t religious - was concerned about my new hobby. She was partially concerned that I seemed to be the only girl playing, and made me drag my friend Emily to the sessions even though Emily wasn’t that interested at that age (she came around *g*). But she was also partially concerned about the game’s reputation. If my mother, who never made us go to church, or read the Bible, or do anything more religious in nature than opening presents on Christmas (yes; I know; it also took me a long time to figure out what rabbits and chocolate had to do with Jesus. Let me give you a clue. nothing) was concerned about the game’s rumored links to Satanism, you can bet on two things. Many more religious parents forbade their children to play Many kids who were feeling rebellious about their current religious (or other parental) restrictions sought the game out The result, as those kids grew up and solidified their religious orientations, was a gaming community that was significantly less Christian, and significantly more agnostic/atheist/other, than the general surrounding population. This is not to say that Christian kids did not play. In fact, when I was in high school, one of my favorite Dungeon Masters (that’s the person who runs the game) was a kid whose father was a minister. Fortunately, his father was an intelligent minister who actually investigated his kid’s interests rather than simply forbidding them. Both of his boys were gamers, although the older one was more enthusiastic. We played at his home, plenty of times, with no more judgment than we received in anybody else’s home. The point is, D&D doesn’t “promote” witchcraft (or Wicca) any more than it promotes Satanism or atheism or any other ‘alternative’ belief (or lack thereof). It does tend to attract people who aren’t wedded to “traditional” religious views.
